Today, MUCC joined Mayor Palmieri on one of his weekly cleaning sweeps around Utica. We were picked up by a police bus this morning and taken down James Street to help the mayor clean up the city streets.
We went throughout the neighborhood picking up garbage along James and Dudley Streets as well as a few others.
It was a big project. The City had brought a few little vacuum trucks and other intense cleaning machines.
The Mayor may or may not have been walking around with a big electric hedge clipper sawing down bushes and tree branches that interfered with the sidewalks.
We talked to people and bonded in the hot, city streets. But the most important part of the day was that we were able to help out the city that we call home. We are the Midtown UTICA Community Center. We are a part of this community and today we helped out our community a little bit. It was a small amount of effort but it means the world to this place. We need to look out for each other and helping clean up is a small way of doing that.
It’s all about community.
